PURPOSE: We know from our long
observation that life starts in the tiny microscopic cells. Animal and
plant life originate in the cell. Here in the cell lay all intriguing and
fascinating processes of manufacturing the element of biological life. Our
complex body is a united nation of trillions of member cells. These member
cells had specialized to form organs that make up our complex body. In
each of these cells lay our genetic data base and control codes in the
form of genes, enzymes, and complex factory of biological reactions.
Healthy organism is determined by how we maintain and nurture this very
complex harmony of all bodily organs. This entire organism is meant to
perform one and only one function: utilizing energy. All other
biological functions are precursors of that single function. Even our
cognitive functions are geared to aid in utilizing energy to the best of
our ability. Animals that fail to compete for energy utilization will be
denied its benefits: life.: We have attributed every purpose in life to utilization of
energy. Muscles are the major organs to do that efficiently. Muscles have
the structural elements that can perform acceleration. That is deforming
space and time. When neglected, excess energy is accumulated as fat in
parts of our bodies that limit our ability to move, breath, digest, or
earn our living. When there is no excess energy, the organism fails to use
its basic energy needs efficiently. Intestinal walls fail to mobilize
nutrients and slow our entire utilization of nutrition. Lungs fail to
deliver the needed oxygen and rid of the carbon dioxide we produce. No
such single factor has such impact on our health as exercising our
muscles.
Even our mind depends on our muscles. I met many patient whose problems
began with the neglect of exercise and would be greatly alleviated if the
modify the life style and emphasize on exercise. Physicians learn that
tricks of the trade starts by "inspection". Even before the
patient tells his own side of the story, a physician would glance swiftly
on the general outlook of his patient to guide his suspicion of what might
be ailing. A patient with wasted muscle, full belly would alarm the
physician of a debilitating process. A patient with psychiatric problem
would be consistent with lack of well-structured history of exercise.
Preoccupation with drugs, sex, or food is a sign of anxious minds that
thwart planning an exercise program. It has become well acknowledge,
nowadays, that exercise is the ultimate cure for body and mind, as is the
energy. Physicians today advise their patients to start exercise as soon
as they can tolerate its effect. Be they surgical patients, rehabilitated
addicts, psychiatric patients, exercise will touch the basic essence of
existence: energy. You do not have to understand all this metaphor to
believe that exercise is you ultimate solution. No matter what problem is
occupying your mind, exercise would help you mind to tackle any problem
with different approaches rather than the narrow one you started with.
