Other animals cannot afford such lengthy course of growth which human have to go through. A newborn ass can stand and walk away from his mother in few hours. Even before his amniotic fluid has dried, he possesses both motor and the sensory abilities far superior to those of a human newborn. His rear limbs get stronger by the minutes. His exquisite hearing ability enables him to track the breathing sound of his mother. His visual awareness in viewing his mother as well as exploring the new world will prove vital to his role in this rural Egyptian desert. By the time the villagers return from shopping at that Monday’s market, a fully independent new guest would be ready to join the crowd. A year later, this donkey would become an invaluable means of transportation, at moonless nights and on muddy dirt road, when pickup trucks are stranded at the nearest town. |
