Medicine Ball Resistance Training 

Leg, spinal, and shoulder strengthening

Both the shoulder girdle and the pelvic girdles are vigorously trained with a 10 pound medicine ball.  

The shoulder girdle is the main lifter of the arms and head.  Strong shoulder girdle guarantees stronger upper back vertebral attachments.  The most important of these are the chest cage ribs, the clavicles, and the skull.  Thus stronger shoulder girdle is vital for respiration, arm circulation, and head support.   Specific shoulder training prevents chronic fatigue, debility, and general feeling of wasting.  The blood supply that reaches the brain, arms, and lungs rely totally on the ability of the shoulder girdle to support patent tunnels (unblocked blood vessels) that pass under the clavicles to reach the arms, inside the vertebral canal of the cervical vertebrae to reach the back of the brain, and along the spinal cord, inside the spinal canal, to supply the spinal cord and its branching nerves that supply the breathing muscles of the chest cage.

The pelvic girdle is the major locomotion platform.  All sorts of motion involves the pelvic girdle.  Even moving your arms while laying down in bed affects the pelvic girdle. When animals swing one limb the pelvic girdle keeps the entire body balance by swinging the opposite-side limb in the other girdle.  Thus swinging  the right arm induces the left leg to move to maintain balance.  The pelvic girdle supports the entire bodyweight and therefore it is formed of the heaviest bones in the body.   You will clearly notice that alcoholics, smokers, people who perform disk jobs, and those who lead sedentary life, all share common feature of  the wasting of the pelvic musculature, with either massive deposition of fat at the buttocks or massive loss of most of the glutei muscles.  This predispose to hip fracture, limited mobility and consequently limited enjoyment of life.  The well formed glutei of weightlifters is the most reliable sign of proper skeletal development progress.
